What is WITCH SHIT?

WITCH SHIT is a monthly-ish newsletter that will give you access to tarot and witch wisdom like:

  • Tarot spreads and deep dives into card meanings and symbolism

  • Guidance on how to integrate your tarot practice with the season’s themes

  • Observations about the intersection of tarot, art, and witchy culture

  • Updates about my online and in-person classes and workshops

Now for the newsletter name.

I think magical stuff can be super powerful, but it can also get mired in layers of misconception and fear when we take it too seriously. The name WITCH SHIT is inherently, err, informal, which I hope will give us permission to explore, learn, and play with getting witchy. It’s a reminder that there’s no wrong way to witch.

Who is ALTARU TAROT?

From fantasy-obsessed kid (did I try to memorize all the spells in Harry Potter circa 1998? Yes, yes I did.), ALTARU TAROT is my Brooklyn-based tarot reading self. In the last eight years of working with tarot has taught me that no card—even the “hard” ones—is bad.

For me, tarot has illuminated the importance narratives play in crafting our understanding of self and the world around us. In addition to reading for others, I spend a lot of time navel gazing about the ways tarot archetypes show up in our every day lives and can guide us through both generative and tough times. More of my tarot musings can be found on my Instagram @altarutarot.

Yeah, but what the eff does ALTARU TAROT MEAN?

Honestly, half of occult stuff is in the naming, non?

As a descendant of a long line of evil-eye-banishing Egyptians, coupled with the old (yet unproven) belief that the tarot harbors the wisdom of our ancestors, it felt only right to honor that lineage. Hence '“al taru,” which translates to “tarot” in Arabic, was born.

A practice so nice, I named it twice.

Cheeky name aside, the Ancient Egyptians have been known—throughout history and the world—as masters of beauty, storytelling, symbolism, and the mystical. ALTARU TAROT is a small celebration of that tradition.
